Soul project of the Dutch bands DeWolff & Dawn Brothers. Pablo van de Poel about Double Cream: It was during the recording of Dawn Brothers’ new single ‘Too Many Colors in the Sun’ in 2017 that I decided that Bas van Holt and I should definitely get together and try to write some songs in the vein of Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Ray Charles, The Coasters, Clovers and all those other great soul and rhythm & blues artists where it all started: the musical gods who made hips move all over the world, the instigators who laid the foundation for almost all the music that has inspired us for so many years. In our own bands, DeWolff and Dawn Brothers, we have always tried to bridge the gap between “then” and “now”, but this time we just wanted to build a time machine that takes you back to the 60s with the same gear, recording techniques and musical way of thinking. On April 20th 2021 we finally got together and wrote 4 songs that day: Let Me Tell You, I’m Gone, Alabama Small Town and (Something in my) Pocket. We asked our friends to record them with us the next day. At Electrosaurus Studio we had 9 people in one room having a blast recording songs straight to analog tape. Everything was recorded live, with horns, backing vocals, percussion and excellent vocal performances by Bas. It was one of the best musical experiences I’ve ever had. So we decided to make something of it and planned 4 more sessions: 1 day of writing, 1 day of recording and 1 day of mixing. It didn’t take long before we had recorded a full album. Everything you hear was recorded live to analog tape with 6-11 people in one room having so much fun, and that’s exactly what makes this album so much fun to listen to. It was just as much fun to make!
